Paws Tetra Handles are a conversion accessory for the Rehasense PAWS power assisted wheelchair system. They replace the standard handles with horizontal tetra handles, allowing users with reduced hand strength or limited finger function to operate the PAWS controls more comfortably and safely.

FAQ's

Can I use the PAWS device with my existing wheelchair?

Yes, PAWS is compatible with most rigid and folding manual wheelchairs, including those with removable leg rests. There are special clamp solutions for non-round tubing (e.g., Küschall K2 or oval profiles). However, PAWS isnot recommendedfor carbon fibre chairs due to clamping pressure risks.

What options exist for users with limited upper limb mobility?

PAWS offersTetra Controls, including specially designed handlebars, throttle and braking systems. These allow users with limited or no finger strength to safely control the device. There’s also ahydraulic Tetra brakeand anAUTO-AUTO docking/lift system, ideal for those with severe physical limitations.

How does the AUTO LIFT and E-CLAMP system work?

The automatic docking system allows users to connect and lift the PAWS without manual strength:

  • Drive into the clamps
  • Press the red safety button
  • Activate the lift with the switch on the handlebars

The system handles the clamping and lifting within 20 seconds.

What’s the maximum range of the battery and can I extend it?

The standard battery provides up to 40 km on flat terrain, depending on model, weight, and conditions. You can extend your range using the dual battery holder, allowing easy switch to a second battery mid-journey.

Can PAWS go in the rain or over puddles?

Yes. PAWS is ratedIP54, meaning it is protected against limited dust ingress and water splashes from any direction. Light rain and puddles are not an issue, but submerging or power-washing is not recommended.

Can I fly with my PAWS?

Yes. A flight-safe lithium-ion battery (278 Wh) is available and complies with IATA guidelines. It can be swapped in easily before travel. Always notify your airline in advance.

Does PAWS have a cruise control function?

Yes. Cruise Control allows you to maintain a consistent speed over long distances without keeping your hand on the throttle. It can be activated with a button press and disengaged manually or by braking.

How should PAWS be maintained and serviced?

Light maintenance (e.g. tyre pressure, battery cleaning) should be done regularly.

A dealer check-up is required after the first month.

A full 24-month service is essential and includes battery diagnostics, clamp adjustment and controller check.

What’s the difference between City, Cruiser, and Tourer models beyond wheel size?

City: Best for tight indoor and urban spaces; lightest and most compact.

Cruiser: A balance between performance and agility on mixed terrain.

How do I store or transport PAWS safely?

Always store in a dry, clean environment.

For vehicle transport, use optional transport wheels for easier lifting.
